Journey Power Line Technician/Mechanic

Position Summary

Performs Journey level tasks by constructing, maintaining and removing devices, equipment and material associated with the daily operation of an overhead and underground distribution electric system.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Performs low and medium voltage line duties as required on energized and de-energized lines, equipment and devices without the need of direct supervision, except in the most unusual situations, relying on previous experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a thorough technical and working knowledge of construction and maintenance procedures utilized on electric distribution systems as well as rules, regulations and safety practices. Demonstrates mastery of tools, equipment and operational details required to complete assigned tasks. Duties shall be performed while maintaining and enforcing a very high standard of safety and workmanship.

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus 4 years of experience working on low and medium voltage distribution electrical power lines and equipment.

Valid Texas Class A Commercial Drivers License or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience with the hazards associated while working around energized lines and equipment involving low and medium voltage.

Experience climbing electrical poles and structures up to 100 feet, while utilizing fall restraint equipment and devices.

Experience working with electric utility design and construction standards.

Experience with construction of all types of transformer installations serving energized and de-energized single and three phase loads.

Experience with operating, maneuvering and/or controlling the actions of equipment, machinery and tools used in completing assigned tasks.

Working Environment

Work is performed outside in varying temperatures and conditions while exposed to electrical and other hazards.

Mental Requirements

Position requires the ability to plan and organize, as well as the ability to read and perform basic mathematical computations. The position also requires the ability to clearly and coherently communicate using a verbal and written form of the English language.

Special Requirements

Due to the safety and security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to drug and/or controlled substance testing.

Position Summary

Performs Journeyman level tasks by installing, maintaining or extending an electrical wiring system and the appurtenances, apparatus or equipment used in connection with the use of electrical energy in, on, outside or attached to a building, residence, structure, property or premises.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Performs diverse duties required in the delivery and manipulation of electricity to residential, commercial and industrial customers without the need of direct supervision, relying on previous experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a thorough technical and working knowledge of construction, maintenance and trouble shooting procedures utilized in residential, commercial or industrial electric systems as well as rules, regulations and safety practices. Demonstrates mastery of tools, equipment and operational details required to complete assigned tasks. Duties shall be performed while maintaining and enforcing a very high standard of safety and workmanship.

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus 2 years of experience working in a residential, commercial or industrial setting as a licensed Journeyman Electrician.

Valid Texas Class B Commercial Drivers License or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience with the hazards associated while working around energized lines and equipment.

Experience reading schematics, blueprints, construction drawings, manuals and other types of written literature detailing the operating environment of electrical systems and equipment.

Experience with industry accepted codes, regulations and work methods utilized in constructing, maintaining and trouble shooting electrical systems.

Experience with single and three phase secondary voltage applications.

Experience with operating, maneuvering and/or controlling the actions of equipment, machinery and tools used in completing assigned tasks.

Working Environment

Work is performed inside and outside in varying temperatures and conditions while exposed to electrical and other hazards.

Performs tasks working as a trainee acquiring the skills necessary to perform highly technical electrical work on energized/de-energized, low and medium voltage lines and equipment.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, provides manpower while acquiring the knowledge, pre-requisite skills and proficiency in the work methods necessary for the proper construction, maintenance and operation of an electric distribution system.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess the aptitude, manual dexterity and willingness to perform tasks on electric power lines while working out of an aerial device or on a pole/structure 100 ft above the ground.

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent. Position requirement ranges from entry level to 3 years of experience working on low and medium voltage distribution electrical power lines and equipment.

Valid Texas Class A Commercial Drivers License or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

General to specific knowledge of working near or on energized lines, equipment and devices.

Ability to climb, or acquire the ability to climb, electrical poles and structures within 90 days of employment.
